Kindergarten / Kinderkrippe Bad Hofgastein

The boomerang shape allows clearly and logically structured zones – separating the kindergarten and day nursery – as well as optimally lighted group rooms with direct access to the outside and short distances.

[break] The urban form creates clearly defined zones with different functions on the planning site. The arrival area with a sheltered forecourt enables safe arrival. The spacious open and play areas are located in the south-west of the site and are extended by terraces on the upper floor. Thanks to the boomerang shape, all group rooms are orientated towards the south-west and offer optimal lighting options and direct access to the covered terrace. The sheltered entrance area creates a clear arrival situation. The western part of the ground floor is dedicated to the crèche with all its ancillary rooms. The eastern part houses a kindergarten cluster and the associated dining area. The administration and staff rooms are located directly next to the entrance, ensuring short distances. The remaining three kindergarten clusters, including the dining area, are located on the upper floor. The circulation areas are enhanced by niches of different sizes, which can be used as play or rest areas. The outdoor area in the south-west of the building offers enough space for all the nursery and crèche children to play and run around. The upper floor is connected to the outdoor area on the ground floor via open staircases. A hilly landscape structures the outdoor area into different zones and invites children to enjoy activities such as sliding and tobogganing in winter. Ecologically orientated construction is the top priority for the new kindergarten in Bad Hofgastein. The entire structure, with the exception of the parts of the building in contact with the ground, is made of timber. The load-bearing walls between the group rooms form the basic structural framework with a pod formation.
